LAUNCHING OF YAYASAN SABAH-PETRONAS IMBAK CANYON CONSERVATION PARTNERSHIP ON 29 JUNE 2011
Yayasan Sabah Group and PETRONAS will be launching the Imbak Canyon Conservation Partnership at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa on 29 June 2011. In conjunction with the launching there will be MoU signing between Yayasan Sabah, Sabah Forestry Department, Sabah Wildlife Department, Academy of Sciences Malaysia, PETRONAS and Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University for the promotion of research, training and education programme. An Imbak Canyon Stakeholders one and half day Workshop will also be held at the Grand Ballroom, Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa. Yayasan Sabah Group will also be launching a Book entitled “Yayasan Sabah’s Contribution To Nature Conservation”. Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, Chief Minister of Sabah cum Chairman of Yayasan Sabah Board of Trustees is expected to officiate the functions.

KENINGAU HANDICRAFT CENTRE
The Keningau Handicraft Centre built by Yayasan Sabah Group at Keningau at a cost of RM30 million will be ready by the end of this year. This is another project of Yayasan Sabah Group for and on behalf of the State Government. The Handicraft Centre will be a one-stop centre for training and the marketing avenue for handicrafts from all over Sabah to boost human capital development and the tourism industry respectively.

KOLEJ YAYASAN SABAH NEW CAMPUS
The new RM47 million state-of-the-art Kolej Yayasan Sabah city campus at Sembulan is expected to be completed in 2013. The new campus will be able to accommodate 4,000 students. It was built in line with Yayasan Sabah’s aim to establish its Kolej Yayasan Sabah as a University College in the very near future. To meet this aim, Kolej Yayasan Sabah is in the process of getting ready to add degree courses in its curriculum.

Yayasan Sabah Group Forest Management Units (FMUs) 15 and 16 (188,610 hectares) in the Sungai Pinangah Forest Reserve are the first in Sabah to receive Verification of Legal Compliance (VLC) by the Rainforest Alliance of New York under its Smartwood Program on May 26, 2010. The award is a major step towards full certification under the Forest Stewardship Council Gold standard.

RADIO FREQUENCY LOGTRACKING SYSTEM (RFID)
Based on the successful implementation of the Forestry Division s RFID Log Tracking and Monitoring System (LOGTRAMS) pilot project with Sabah Forestry Department (SFD) in 2009 in the Kuamut Forest Reserve (120 ha), SFD has agreed to expand this RFID LOGTRAMS to coupe YS1/07(5) of 3,000 ha in Sandakan region. At the same time, the Forestry Division has also earmarked coupe YT2/08 of 7,000 ha in Tawau region to apply this RFID LOGTRAMS.
